I noticed that a spammer got through tonight. Chen1991 posted several topics that were advertising DVD's for sale.

The member has been banned and the topics removed.

If you notice any further spam, please let one of the admins know.

If you start having problems you can change the permissions so all new members have to be approved. With that you just have them register, then you can check out who it is before they are able to post.

All new members DO have to be approved. They must reply to an automatically generated email to prove they are not a bot, then one of us manually verifies them. This does not keep out the human spammers. I run an IP adress check on them to see where they are. If they have a nonsense name and an IP in south Asia, that's a strong indication of spamming intent. However, I am not going to start profiling people based on country of origin. At the first sign of spam, we ban them. If it's pictoral spam like we had last week, I delete them entirely.

The current wave of spammers are using hotlinked commercial addresses in their signiture lines, a violation of board policy. You are welcome to post your own website, even if you are a commercial enterprise. You may not, however, post links to offshore pirate software/movie sites, etc. I think we all know the difference between legitimate sigs and spam, though. ;)

Edited to add: Sorry Dave, I'm the one who let Chen1991 in. I did deny permission to Boylover3030 (from Jakarta, Indonesia) and some other one, though... :lol: Please note I don't care what your personal leanings are, that is an inappropriate name for this forum. Yet another reason Don asks that people use their real names when they register. Using a real name shows that you respect the forum enough not to hide behind an (incorrect!) idea of anonymity. Speaking of which, if anyone ever wants their name changed, just ask and we can do it.

    After a lot of time spent on this forum , if I ever manage to make a nice blade , handle , scabbard , etc .,,, all credit would have to go to the members here . The knowledge shared freely here is incredible , and is much appreciated . I am very grateful for it , thank you Mr. Fogg .

Gentlemen , got a question about the last subject . When I signed up here I didn't know about using my real name until too late . I got hold of Don , so he let me in . BUUTTT , is there a way one of you could change it for me ? It was completely my fault , but I'd still like to use the one Mom gave me ,,,. Thanks ( in any case )

Remember Snuffy Smith , the little hillbilly in the sunday funnies ? My wife says that's me . And people started tellin me I look like Charlie when the trial was going . ( and ever since ) So she made up the name when we first got a computer , for my email .
If I had to look like somebody famous , why did it have to be him , LOL ?
